If you have braces, you have them because you want to achieve a beautiful smile. A healthy, straight smile is an accessory that will give you advantages in life. Someone with a beautiful smile is more likely to offer a smile in a friendly manner, encouraging others to be attracted to him. Someone with a beautiful smile is more likely to exude confidence, helping her promote herself in school, business, and relationships. If you are working to achieve a smile that you want to show off, don’t ruin it by vaping.
Vaping is the latest bad habit that is sweeping the Nation among young people. Vaping is the act of inhaling vaporized liquid from an electric device known as a vape pen. Since 2014, using vape pens has drastically increased among young people. Recent studies cite that one in five high school students are now vaping or using other forms of tobacco.
The marketing of vaping is very misleading. Vaping is sold as a healthier alternative to smoking, yet the adverse consequences of vaping prove that there is nothing healthy about it. Vaping liquids include the ingredients propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin, both of which are very damaging to tooth enamel, gum tissues, and saliva production. When your oral health is compromised, there is a significant increase in cavities, gum disease, tooth decay, tooth loss, and other oral health issues.
It is also essential to know that vaping liquids contain nicotine. Nicotine is a highly addictive and dangerous drug. Nicotine affects nearly every aspect of the body, including the brain, blood vessels, and immune system. Liquid cartridges contain around the same amount of nicotine as a pack of cigarettes. While vaping is popular among teens, as of December 20, 2019, the legal age limit is 21 years old for purchasing any tobacco products in the U.S.
Dentists and doctors across the United States are trying to raise awareness of the adverse effects of vaping on oral health. At Broad Street Braces, we want parents, teens, and young adults to understand that vaping can ruin your smile. If you invest time and money in orthodontic treatment to obtain a beautifully straight smile, do not run it by vaping.
