Spring break time is here! Yippee! There are so many fun things to dive into during your spring break. Perhaps you’ll be heading to the beach and diving into the ocean! Or maybe you’re lucky enough to be skiing your way down the side of a mountain. Or if you’re super lucky, you get to get your braces off this spring! So many new and exciting things happen in the spring.
If you are getting your braces off this spring, you’ll be happy to know that there’s a way to retain and keep that amazing smile you have right now! A retainer is useful for maintaining the position and condition of your teeth post-orthodontic adjustments.
If you’re given a removable retainer, here are a few tips for you.
- You should wear your retainer at all times, including while you sleep. You may remove it to brush, floss and clean your teeth, but it must be placed back into your mouth immediately after those activities. Eventually you will be able to cut back on the amount of time that you wear your retainer.
- When you’re not wearing your retainer, keep it in a case. Did you know dogs love the smell of your saliva? They will search for your container and chew it like a bone if you leave it out.
- Your retainer can build up a layer of plaque, just like your teeth! It needs brushed at least one time per day.
- If your retainer ever breaks, gets lost, bends or does not seem to fit, please call us at Broad Street Braces immediately.
