Do you have your back to school shopping list printed for school this fall? Have you checked it twice and tried to find the cutest backpack possible to handle all those books and supplies that you’re about to tote back and forth to school every day? It’s all exciting, a little daunting and very academic. All the buzz around school stuff can make you feel pretty smart.
One way to start school off to a smart start is by ensuring that you’re all set to go with your orthodontic care as well. Peer pressure can try to convince you that you can pause your orthodontic adjustment while you’re at school and still achieve a brilliantly aligned smile. This is false.
One alignment and adjustment ‘tool’ we use at Broad Street Braces is rubber bands. They are designed to move your top teeth relative to your bottom teeth. They are removable to help you eat comfortably. This means that you are responsible to put them in and take them out each day, according to instructions.
If you choose not to wear the rubber bands during the school day, your teeth will not move, and it will extend your orthodontic treatment a great deal. Think of it this way:
- If you don’t wear your rubber bands, you teeth won’t move.
- If your teeth don’t move, then your adjustment is not happening.
- If no adjustment happens, then your expectation for brace removal is moved further back.
Broad Street Braces would like to remind all our patients to pack their rubber bands along with their other school supplies each day. We’ll give you an A+ smile!
